Many people choose to cut down on their carbs when they diet, assuming that this is where most of their weight gain is coming from. However, many people don’t realize that most of their energy comes from carbohydrate consumption, making carbohydrates a vital part of their meal plan.
People tend to gain weight from eating food items that are high in fat, not carbohydrates. Note that fat contains nine calories per gram, whereas carbohydrates contain only four calories per gram. In addition, most food items that are naturally high in carbohydrates tend to be more “filling” than food items that are high in fat, thereby decreasing the chances that you will overeat.
Be sure to read the nutrition label on food items to determine the amount of carbohydrates and fat it contains. When eating out, ask to see the nutrient information for menu items if it is not displayed. Learn more about whether carbs are good or bad for you!
